March 19, 2002 Four residents will be presented with the annual Vocational Excellence Awards presented by Rotary East to recognize "those who have demonstrated a high degree of competence, effectiveness, and enthusiasm in their vocation," according to a release.
The event will take place at Wedneday, March 20, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.; awards presentations get underway at 7 p.m.
Honored this year are, in the words of the release:
Rafe Boulon, biologist with the Naional Park Service, a strong supporter of reef and wildlife projection projects in the islands, notably the endangered leatherback turtle nesting site at Sandy Point.
Alexey Dubovney, personal trainer at World Gym, who epitomizes an encourage, positive attitude toward achieving personal fitness goals. He ensures the gym is response to individual member needs and finances.
Sandra Garness, member of the wait staff at the Ritz-Carlton responsible for supporting the weekly meetings of Rotary East. She exemplifies the Ritz-Carlton concept of "ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen" through her own dignity and elegance.
Nicky "Mightly Whitey" Russell, outstanding musician nominated for his unwavering sense of philanthropy. He spearheads many fundraising efforts, many for medical or burial expenses for those in need. He recruits local talent to volunteer to perform, and he also volunteers for the popular annual Chili Cook-off and has played for school groups at no cost.
