NINE SCHOOLS TO COMPETE FOR QUIZ BOWL TROPHY

0

April 9, 2002 – The V.I. Quiz Bowl begins at noon Sunday at Palms Court Harbor View Hotel on St. Thomas, and continues through Tuesday. WVWI Radio One will broadcast all days.
WTJX will video the finale for showing at a later date.
Monday and Tuesday sessions will start at 8:30 a.m.
Vying for the trophy provided by Texaco will be nine high schools. Coming from St. Croix will be Country Day School, Central High School, St. Croix Educational Complex, and Good Hope School. From St. Thomas will come Eudora Kean High School, Charlotte Amalie High School, Antilles School, Sts. Peter and Paul School and All Saints Cathedral School.
"Quiz Bowl showcases some of our academically talented high school students," said coordinator Henrietta Warner. These students need to know, instantly, facts from such areas as math, science, history, art, music, language, literature and current events.
A release from co-producer St. Thomas-St. John Federation of Teachers, Local 1825, said there is still a need for donations to help with the 2002 games.
The community has been responding to earlier requests for donations, said the release, but more funds are needed for both the local event, which is co-produced by the Federation and WTJX-TV, and the trip for winners to the national championships in the United States.
