WATER INTERRUPTION SCHEDULED

April 18, 2002 – As part of its ongoing leak detection program, the V.I. Water and Power Authority has scheduled a water interruption in parts of downtown Charlotte Amalie beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The affected areas are General Gade near the USO intersection, Sts. Peter and Paul School and the area from Store Gade to the Bank of Nova Scotia on the Waterfront.
The interruption is expected to last until 3:30 a.m. Friday.
WAPA has contracted with Utilities Services Associates of Seattle, Wash., to look for water line leaks territorywide. USA uses high-tech listening devices to pinpoint the location of leaks.
The project is expected to improve the potable water delivery system significantly by increasing water pressure and reducing interruptions caused by breakage of water lines.

Best Construction, a St. Croix company, will repair and replace potable water lines on both St. Thomas and St. Croix where USA detects leaks. The project will affect 227 combined miles of lines on both islands.
