IT'S TIME FOR THE ANNUAL 'NO FISHERMEN' TOURNEY

April 25, 2002 – It's "no fishermen allowed" for the Frenchtown community's 8th annual Mother's Day bottom fishing tournament set for Sunday, May 5.
That's because the annual event, presented by the Committee for the Betterment of Carenage and traditionally held on the Sunday before Mother's Day, is for female anglers only.
"We want to emphasize that this is strictly for the ladies," Teddy Danet, CBC president and tournament coordinator, said Thursday. "While the men may assist the ladies, only the fish caught by the female anglers will qualify for prizes."
Because it's a bottom-fishing tournament, "there are many species of fish which qualify for judging," Danet said. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish of various kinds and for the most fish by weight, among other things. There will be separate junior anglers competition for participants ages 6 through 16.
We're still putting the prize list together," Danet said, "but the top prize in previous years has been a weekend getaway at a resort."
Fishing will take place between 5:30 a.m. and noon, when all boats must be back at the Gustave Quetel Fishing Center in Frenchtown. Registration will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Joseph Aubain Ballpark. The entry fee is $20, which also entitles the angler to a T-shirt and drinks.
The tournament is sponsored by Coors Light, distributed by Bellows International. Prizes will be presented at the annual mini-carnival in Frenchtown on Father's Day weekend.
Danet said he wanted to remind male anglers that "We'll have our own Father's Day tournament on June 9." Details about that one will be available soon, he said.
