WESTIN GUESTS BEING PICKED UP AT CROWN BAY

June 18, 2002 – The Westin Resort and Villas has streamlined its guest transportation system with the arrival of the Westin Breeze, a 70-foot ferry that takes passengers from Crown Bay on St. Thomas directly to the St. John hotel.
"Moving ferry operations to Crown Bay Marina assures Westin guests of a quicker inter-island shuttle and a much better experience overall," said Bill Thompson, director of sales and marketing in a news release.
Until now, Thompson said, the Westin has ferried its passengers from the Charlotte Amalie waterfront to St. John. He said that Crown Bay, where benches and posted schedules have been installed for the convenience of guests, provides a more pleasant ambience than the commercially oriented downtown waterfront. Crown Bay also is closer to Cyril E. King Airport and can be accessed from the airport without getting into downtown traffic tie-ups.
Thompson said he expects the Westin Breeze to move about 140,000 passengers a year, including those going on sightseeing water tours and on shopping expeditions from St. John to downtown Charlotte Amalie. The vessel is owned by Inter-island Boat Services, which holds the contract for providing island transfer services for guests of the resort.
The boat can hold up to 132 passengers. Its interior is air-conditioned and there are television and service bars on the upper and lower decks, according to the release. No one could be reached at the Westin for further information.
