FAILED INSULATOR CITED AS CAUSE OF POWER OUTAGE

0

July 15, 2002 – Many St. John residents saw their morning showers interrupted and their breakfast bread go untoasted when an insulator failed on a utility pole in Chocolate Hole at 7:40 a.m., taking power down across much of the island.
"It tripped Feeder 9D and affected most of St. John," Water and Power Authority spokeswoman Patricia Blake Simmonds said. She said the power was back islandwide by 10:15 a.m. Cruz Bay did not lose power because it is on a different feeder, she said.
Simmonds said the Chocolate Hole problem caused a fire on a pole located miles away on Ajax Peak Road in Estate Carolina, near Coral Bay. V.I. Fire Service and WAPA personnel responded.
