Sept. 4, 2002 – The two St. Croix performances of the David Edgecombe comedy "For Better For Worse" that had been set for Saturday and Sunday at the Educational Complex have been rescheduled for Sept. 28 and 29.
The play is being presented by the Caribbean Repertory Company at the Reichhold Center for the Arts on St. Thomas. Edgecombe, who is the director of the Reichhold Center and also is directing the production, indicated that he wanted to give the cast more rehearsal time.
"We lost three of the original cast members for various reasons, and I want to make sure the St. Croix run of the play will be every bit as good as it was on St. Thomas," he said in a release on Thursday.
The play, a Caribbean comedy about the generation gap set in Montserrat in the 1970s, had a twice-extended run this summer at the Little Theater on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands. Two additional performances were given at the Reichhold Center last weekend.
The cast features George Silcott Jr. and Jolanda Donadelle as Derek and Sandra, a rebellious college-educated young couple who reject their parents' ideas of marriage; Seymour Davis as Derek's political and hypocritical father; and Josephine Lindquist as Sandra's obsessively religious mother. Others in the cast are Donna Renee Carter, Fred Hintz (replacing Michael Kuich), Marcus Daniel (replacing Kevin Henry) and Nina Farrell (replacing Jahima Parsons).
Edgecombe said he is "looking forward to meeting and speaking with the UVI students who are in the process of starting a theater company on the St. Croix campus." Taking "For Better For Worse" to St. Croix "will be the perfect opportunity to promote exchanges between campuses," he added.
For a preview of the production, see "'For Better For Worse,' for now and all month" on St. Thomas Source. For a St. Thomas performance review, see "Cast of comedy soars, 'For Better For Worse'".
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $8 for students. They are being sold at the UVI bookstore on the St. Croix Campus, Sam Goody in Sunny Isle Shopping Center and John E's Gallery in Christiansted.
Tickets purchased for the Sept. 7 and 8 shows will be honored for the rescheduled performances. Purchasers preferring to turn their tickets in for refunds should call the Reichhold box office on St. Thomas at 693-1559.
