Nov. 19, 2002 – Rodney E. Miller Sr., chief executive officer of Roy L. Schneider Hospital, was recently named Health Care Executive of the Year by the National Association of Health Services Executives at its annual meeting in Miami.
Miller was chosen from a group of more than 100 nominees. The criteria for the young Health Services Executive Award include that the recipient possess five to 10 years of progressive management experience in health care, demonstrate commitment to the development of young health care professionals, be active in community organizations and be under the age of 40.
According to Miller, being chosen for the award "speaks well not only for me but for the entire Virgin Islands community."
"To be chosen from such a large group of prestigious health care executives from throughout the country is an honor and a blessing," Miller said.
The NAHSE was formed in 1968 and is a professional association for black health care executives. The organization was established to promote the advancement and development of these leaders and to elevate the quality of health care services of minority and underserved communities.
Miller was also honored recently by Modern Healthcare as one of 13 "Up and Comers" destined to change the health care industry.
