MAN SLAIN, ANOTHER WOUNDED IN SHOOTING CASE

0

Jan. 19, 2003 – One man was killed in a shooting incident on St. Thomas Sunday evening that left a second man hospitalized in stable condition.
The shootings took place around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Estate Contant near the large tamarind tree on the corner between Ulla Muller Elementary School and John Thomas Funeral Home.
Few details about what occurred were available Sunday night. By 10 p.m., an ambulance had departed the scene, leaving one police car and a group of spectators.
St. Thomas Deputy Police Chief Theodore Carty said investigators were still piecing bits of information together. All he could confirm was that "several shots were fired, two were hit, one died at the scene." Police did not release the name of the slain man.
The name of the wounded man was being withheld by Roy L. Schneider Hospital officials. However, hospital chief operating officer Amos Carty Jr. said it appeared he would survive.
"Based on what I was told, I understand he is undergoing treatment at the hospital," Carty said early Monday morning. "The other one expired at the scene."
The homicide was the second of the weekend on St. Thomas and the third both on the island and in the territory this year.
