UVI & HOSPITAL TO HOST BREAST CANCER CONFERENCE

Jan. 24, 2003 – The University of the Virgin Islands Nursing Division and the Roy L. Schneider Hospital will present a conference on breast cancer and African American women on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The free conference, which will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., will feature Sandra Millon-Underwood, who is an American Cancer Society professor and Northwestern Mutual Life research scholar at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's School of Nursing.
Dr. Underwood will lecture on the topic, "Celebrating, Embracing and Promoting the Health of African American Women." Her presentation will include a description of the trends in breast cancer incidence, and mortality and survival among African American women. The conference is designed to train concerned, committed and culturally competent nurse facilitators in the promotion of breast health.
Nurse facilitators who attend the conference will receive five contact hours of continuing education credit.
The conference is underwritten by a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation and will be held in conference room A of the Schneider Hospital. For further information contact Dr. Edith Ramsay-Johnson at 693-1287.
