UVI ASKS: HOW'S THE NURSING PROGRAM DOING?

Jan. 29, 2003 — The University of the Virgin Islands Nursing Division program is seeking public comment as part of its continuing accreditation review by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
The public is invited to attend a forum at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the Nursing Division on the university's St. Thomas campus.
Public comment is an integral part of the evaluation process, Dr. Gloria Callwood, chair of the UVI Nursing Division on the St. Thomas campus, said in a release. The NLNAC requires those schools that are being reviewed to publicize the evaluators' visit and allow an opportunity for public comment. In December the Nursing Division submitted a self-study report to the NLNAC.
"We said that we provide quality nursing education to develop nursing leaders in the community who will act as change agents to provide the best possible nursing care to the populace," Callwood said. "These people will be validating that what we have said about ourselves is accurate."
Evaluators from the NLNAC will be on hand at the public forum on Feb. 12.
Public comments about the university's Nursing Division may also be submitted to Callwood in the UVI Nursing Division, 2 John Brewer's Bay, St. Thomas, V.I. 00802 or to the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc., 61 Broadway – 33rd floor, New York, NY 10006. Callwood may be reached by telephone at 693-1291; the League's telephone is (212) 363-5555 extension 153.
