March 30, 2003 – April is fast approaching and with it both Easter and Earth Day. In celebration these two festivities, Coral World will host an Easter and Earth Day bash for children from 1 to 5 p.m. on April 20.
The event will include special appearances by the Easter Bunny and the Anti-Litter and Beautification Commission's Litter Critter, who will share information with the youngsters on ways to keep their environment clean.
Shawn "The Bird Lady" Carcelli and her trained exotic birds also will make an appearance. Children will be able to get their pictures taken with the birds for $5.
Children will have the opportunity to make their own Easter baskets from recycled materials at an arts and crafts center to be set up on the Blue Water Terrace. "We'll have candy and toys for them to fill their baskets," Allegra Kean, Coral World marketing manager, said.
Face painting also will be available for the youngsters at the center, and there will be contests including a treasure hunt and a sorting game geared to teach them about recycling.
Local admission for Coral World is $8 for general admission, $4 for children ages 3 to 12, and free to children under 3. The ticket booth closes daily at 4 p.m. Easter and Earth Day visitors will be able to enjoy all of the amenities of the marine park.
"I'm looking forward to having lots of children and families come and enjoy themselves and at the same time learn about recycling and conserving," Kean said.
