April 15, 2003 – Taxi drivers who participated in a customer service excellence training program held in the fall of 2002 were honored Friday night at an awards banquet hosted by Cardow Jewelers Inc.
The banquet was set to offer thanks to the 60 drivers who attended the training sessions conducted by the Caribbean Institute of Training and Development, according to a release from Cardow.
The locally developed training program, sponsored by Cardow, West Indian Co. Ltd. and the V.I. Taxi Association, was developed specifically for taxi drivers and covered various aspects of customer relations. The course was offered free of charge.
Cardow director Bill Christie said, "We were pleased with the level of participation in this first series of training sessions and anticipate a much larger group of participants in future sessions."
Christie said taxi drivers are fundamental to the vacation experience of visitors and are therefore the Virgin Islands' most logical ambassadors.
He said Cardow, along with the other program sponsors, is committed to delivering top quality service to visitors in every phase of their vacation..
Christie added, "This is a win-win approach to improving a very important element of the tourism package offered to our guests."
The event was held at The Carib Beach Resort Tourist Ambassador Decals were presented to each program participant. Sam Topp emceed the event and live entertainment was provided by Godfrey Smalls' scratch band.
Christie said, "We look forward to many more taxi drivers participating in this program to become Tourist Ambassadors."
