Home Community Miscellaneous LITERACY CENTER TO TRAIN TUTORS

Aug. 1, 2003 — The St. Croix Literacy Center will offer training workshops in basic literacy for tutors from Aug. 5-8 at the center located at the Theodora Dunbavin Complex in La Grande Princesse.
The workshops, developed by Literacy Volunteers of America, will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., said a release.
"The workshops will prepare the volunteer to teach reading and writing to adult learners at a basic literacy level, which is at a first to second grade level," said Zoraida Jacobs, literacy coordinator for the St. Croix District. "As part of the workshops, volunteers will be required to make a minimum commitment of six months participation tutoring students, using the Tutor Handbook as a guide."
The St. Croix Literacy Center is a division of the State Office of Vocational Technical and Adult Education. For more information or to participate in the workshops, contact Jacobs at 772-3169 or 772-3153.
