Airman Kivondra Fagg / St. Thomas
Sept. 26, 2003 (Army and Air Force Hometown News) — Air Force Airman Kivondra L. Fagg has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The daughter of Sylvia Fagg of St. Thomas, the airman is a 2002 graduate of Charlotte Amallie High School.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an
associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Navy Petty Officer Carl Christopher / St. Thomas
Sept. 15, 2003 (Fleet News) — Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Carl Christopher, son of Annie Christopher of St. Thomas, recently departed for a six-month deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, home-based in Norfolk, Va.
Christopher is one of more than 6,500 Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS Enterprise carrier battle group. Enterprise is the first U.S. aircraft carrier to deploy since the end of major military operations in Iraq.
Carriers like the USS Enterprise are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.
Christopher joined the Navy in December 2000.
Navy Petty Officer Barry Emanuel / St. Thomas

Marine Corps Pvt. Karl C. A. Brodie / St. Thomas
Sept. 9, 2003 (Army and Air Force News) — Marine Corps Pvt. Karl C. A. Brodie, a 2001 graduate of Kean High School, recently went ashore to Roberts International Airport and the Freeport of Monrovia in Liberia to provide support for West African forces while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), based in Camp Lejeune, N.C. The unit is currently deployed with the USS Iwo Jima.
Brodie is one of more than 4,000 Atlantic Fleet Sailors and Marines who are deployed aboard the ships of the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group.
The MEU established a quick reaction force at Robert's International to provide support for the Economic Community of West African States' forces if needed, and assisted in securing the Freeport in an effort to facilitate humanitarian efforts for the Liberian people.
Brodie's unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment. MEUs are composed of more than 2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion, aircraft squadron, support group and command element. With this combination, Brodie's unit supplies and sustains itself for either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for follow-on forces.
