Sept.25, 2003 — The Seventh Day Adventist Church is sponsoring a Health Expo from Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 at Tutu Park Mall. There will be presentations on health topics such as local herbs, hearing, and women's health, and free screening for medical conditions.
Dr. Leroy Gardner is returning by popular demand as guest speaker, said a release. His topic of "Health and Happiness in St. Thomas," emphasizing children's well-being, will be presented on Sunday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dr. Gardner is a pharmacist, physiotherapist, clinical nutritionist, naturopathic physician and theologian who brings all those disciplines and 31 years of experience to his presentations.
Screening will be available for blood pressure, hearing, blood glucose level, cholesterol level, vision/glaucoma testing by Pearle Vision, and massage therapy. See schedule below.
Professionals giving presentations will be Dr. Ronald Nimmo on women's health and Dr. Trevor Connor on dental care Sunday; Carlos Robles on local herbs and Brenda Armstrong on massage therapy Monday; Mona Freeman on hearing and audiology Tuesday, and a plant workshop by the V.I. Agriculture Department on Thursday.
The Expo is sponsored entirely by the Seventh Day Local Church District, City and Marantha Seventh Day churches, with the program set up by the Health Ministries. Expo hours are: Sunday, noon to 4:30 p.m.; and Monday through Thursday, 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The Expo culminates in a Sabbath service will be held at City SDA church at 7:15 p.m. Friday. The service's topic will be health-related.
