Dec. 20, 2003 – Saturday night the UVI Lady Bucs were demolished by the Pace University Lady Setters, 98-26, before a handful of spectators at UVI’s Sports and Fitness Center. Saturday night's game completed a sweep for the Lady Setters, who also trounced the Bucs Friday evening 98-41.
It was déjà vu all over again Saturday night, as the Lady Setters again had all nine players score in the game. The only question in this contest was whether or not Pace would reach the century mark –100 points. By halftime, the Lady Setters were on track to reach triple figures, heading into the locker room with a 50-15 lead.
While the Lady Setters were the model of offensive efficiency, connecting on six shots from behind the three-point arc, the Lady Bucs never really established themselves offensively. UVI even suffered at the line, missing nine of 15 from the charity stripe.
Throughout the evening the Lady Setters' defense was also torrid, allowing only 11 points in the entire second half. "I think we played well tonight, defensively we were a little better tonight than last night," said Lady Setters head coach Carrie Seymour.
"We were coming off a slump and these games are something to build up our confidence," Seymour added.
Just how the Lady Bucs will respond to these two crushing defeats remains to be seen.
Melissa Liverpool had 15 points to lead the Setters, while Andrea Padelsky and Ashley Wallace each added 14.
For the Lady Bucs, Lynn Liburd had a team-leading 11 points, and Rena Stephens added nine.
The Lady Setters improve to 7-3 as the Lady Bucs fall to 0-2 for the season.
The Lady Bucs will next play a series of games against some NCAA Division-3 teams. The Lady Bucs will go up against St. Mary’s on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m., Marymount on Jan. 1 at 7 p.m., Moravian on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m., and Elizabethtown on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.
