Jan. 15, 2004 – Funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 17, for Roy A. Christian, 53, who died on Jan. 8 in Tulsa, Okla.
Viewings will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the John Thomas Funeral Home. The service will follow at 11 a.m. at Word of Faith International Christian Center on Sugar Estate Road, with burial in Western Cemetery No. 1.
Gov. Charles W. Turnbull has extended condolences to survivors in a release, noting that Christian was chief of Corrections in the V.I. Justice Department, and former head of security in the Schneider-Mapp administration and during the first year of the present administration.
"Officer Roy Christian was a dedicated professional in his field and was recipient of many citations and commendations during his 17 years in the Bureau of Corrections," the release said.
Christian is survived by his wife, Linda Charles Christian; father, Leslie A. Christian; son, Rahim Christian Sr.; daughters, Koma, Marjani, Sheniqua and Quianna Christian; step-daughter, Dominique Williams; grandchildren, Kenroy and Khadijah Brown, Kenal and Keniya Bryant and Rahim Christian Jr.; step-granddaughter, Blessyn Washington; brothers, Charles, Manuel, Marcel, Diego and Juan Christian; sisters, Leona Christian Smith, Tyra Christian, Valencia Christian, Joyce Christian Hansen, June Christian Hansen, Ina Christian, Charlene Brathwaite, Arlene Blackman, Mariluz Christian Henry, and June Christian; mother-in-law, Joyce Gooden; godchildren, D'ondre Gumbs, Kimisa and Shikira Smith; 46 nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and special friends.
