Feb. 13, 2004 – Starting Saturday, a Public Works Department contractor will be replacing 1,200 feet of sewer pipe along the airport road by Randall "Doc" James Racetrack, Government House announced on Friday evening.
The work, being done by General Engineering Corp., is involved in repairing a section of the southwest interceptor of the St. Croix sewage system, the release stated. The repairs are mandated under a consent order from District Court and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The work "will resolve an existing problem adjacent to the racetrack and provide integrity to the sewer system," Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood said.
Flaggers at the site will direct motorists through the area while the work is under way, the release stated. It did not indicate how long the work is expected to take.
