June 3, 2004 – Olaf Alexander Jackson also known as "Jack Ceasar," 83, died May 28. 2004 at the Gov. Juan Luis Hospital.
In a release issued by Government House on Wednesday, Gov. Charles W. Turnbull said: "There is great irony that Olaf Jackson passed to his eternal rest on the eve of Memorial Day weekend, when the nation paused to observe the dedication of the World
War II monument in Washington, D.C., and the 60th anniversary of the Normandy invasion. As a retired veteran, with many years of dedicated service to the American Legion, he was scheduled to participate in the planned activities."
The release stated that Jackson was among the first 50 men from St. Croix drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944, and that his tour of duty extended to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the wider Pacific, Europe and the U.S. mainland. Jackson "served his country with devotion and distinction for 29 years and retired as a sergeant first class," the release said, and then served as a labor relations officer with the Labor Department until his retirement in 1984.
Turnbull noted that Jackson was an accomplished musician who "gladly shared his musical skills" playing in the brass section of his high school band, in the Rhythm Kings/Melo Masters, as a trumpeter in the Virgin Islands Orchestra of the Armed Forces, as official bugler while stationed at Fort Buchanan on Puerto Rico, and as an organizer and a teacher with local groups such as the Hi-Lytes and Cultural Roots Band.
Jackson was preceded in death by the late Ruth Rhynita Browne Jackson.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 with the first viewing from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall. The second viewing will held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's. Services will follow at 11 a.m.. Burial will be in the Kingshill Veterans' Cemetery.
