June 3, 2004 – Police on Thursday were investigating the shooting in the back of a 21-year-old Pastory resident at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday as he was walking in the Pastory area. St. John Deputy Police Chief Angelo Hill said in a release that Joshua Germaine suffered a gunshot wound to his upper left shoulder blade in the attack. He was treated at Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center.
Germaine told police that a silver vehicle drove by at the time of the shooting.
Hill said Germaine was free on bail after having been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He said Wednesday's shooting is under investigation.
No further information could be obtained from the police on Thursday. Sources said Germaine was not cooperating with authorities.
St. John Administrator Julien Harley said on Thursday that the last time a shooting incident occurred on St. John was in 1999, when Leslie Smith was charged with having shot Hyacinth Ashley near the Cruz Bay bandstand. Smith was acquitted of the charges lodged in that case.
"This type of stuff doesn't need to be on St. John," Harley said.
He said he is calling for the Police Department to crack down on such incidents before St. John finds itself on a path to violence like that experienced on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
