June 21, 2004 – Senate President David S. Jones sends his deepest condolences to the family of Pfc. Jason Lynch who was killed defending his country while on active duty in Baghdad.
"Pfc. Lynch made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down his life fighting for freedom," said Senator Jones. Senator Jones noted that Lynch's death brings to three the number of Virgin Islanders killed during operation Iraqi Freedom. U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Shane Goldman, whose father lives in St. Croix and U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Kendall Thomas of St. Thomas were killed earlier this year.
"The Virgin Islands community is saddened by the loss of these individuals", said Senator Jones. "Our soldiers are performing heroic deeds overseas, far, far from home, they will always be honored and remembered. We are greatly indebted to these soldiers who gave their lives while protecting others. They will long be remembered for their bravery and commitment to the cause of peace." said Jones.
Senator Jones concluded by saying, " It is with deep remorse that I send my prayers to the parents, family and friends of Pfc. Jason Lynch. May the good Lord ease your sorrows and enlighten your heart to the truth of everlasting life."
