Performing Arts Camp to Be Held July 19-Aug. 20

June 27, 2004 – Pistarckle Theater will be offering a young people's dance and music camp that will run July 19-Aug. 20 at the theater company's facility in Tillett Gardens.
There will be classes in drumming, beginning classical ballet, standard and street jazz dance forms, the Brazilian kick-boxing discipline of capoeira, basic gymnastics, spoken word poetry, world dance traditions, creating found instruments and acting.
Traditions of West Africa, South Africa, South America, Mexico, India, Java, Bali and Japan will be represented in the world dance class.
In the poetry class, participants will listen to a spectrum of spoken word forms ranging from the 1950s beat poets such as Jack Kerouac through contemporary hip hop and the work of Nikki Giovanni; they also will perform their own works.
In the found instruments class, students will create numerous musical instruments from everyday objects that then will be utilized to create a found instrument orchestra that will perform.

Pistarckle also is initiating an adult acting class that will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $20 per session. If there is demand, a second section will be held on another weekday night to be announced, according to the release. Again, call 775-7877 to learn more.
