Art Students to Sell Their T-Shirts at St. John Parade

0

June 30, 2004 – Original-design T-shirts are a colorful part of the territory's annual carnival celebrations on St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John. And creating and marketing a shirt for the July 4th Celebration is a traditional fund-raising project of the School of Visual Arts and Careers.
So, as usual, SVAC students will position themselves along the parade route in Cruz Bay on Monday to sell the shirt they have designed and produced to commemorate this year's St. John festivities.
The not-for-profit School of Visual Arts and Careers, based on St. Thomas, offers after-school and summer instruction for high school students interested in careers in the visual arts. Under the guidance of SVAC director Phebe Schwartz Davis and instructor Edie P. Johnson, the students each year design, silkscreen print and then sell St. John festival shirts as their major fund-raising effort.
The shirts are $10. Proceeds will support the SVAC program and directly benefit the students. For more information about the school, call Schwartz Davis at 775-2739.
