Dr. Marcella Nunez Smith Earns Honors, Fellowship

July 12, 2004 – Dr. Marcella Nunez Smith recently completed her residency in internal medicine at Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
At her graduation she was recognized for her role as primary care chief resident at the VA Hospital, an affiliate of the Harvard Health Care System. She was also recognized for teaching excellence by Harvard's Medical School graduates, Class of 2004, and received a teaching award from them. While a resident, Nunez Smith received a grant from the Brigham. With support from this grant, she revised the women's health curriculum for the program's residents in internal medicine. She also served as an officer for the Minority Health Staff Organization.
Nunez Smith successfully competed for the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine starting in July.
Nunez Smith was salutatorian of All Saints Cathedral School class of 1992, and is a graduate of Swarthmore College and Thomas Jefferson Medical College. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honorary society for medicine. She is the granddaughter of the late Teresita Nunez and the daughter of Maxine Nunez and Moleto Smith.
