July 17, 2004 – Caribbean Community Theatre presents What the Butler Saw from July 23 through Aug. 1. This adult farce by Joe Orton is the story of the Prentices – no ordinary couple. Dr. Prentice is a psychiatrist with his own hospital who believes that the best way to interview a girl for a job is to seduce her. Geraldine does her best to comply, but nothing is going to work smoothly in this nut house that includes Mrs. Prentice, a nymphomaniac who is seduced by a bellhop in a hotel, or maybe it’s vice versa. What ensues is a wild melee of disappearances, disguises and discoveries.
Opening night for What the Butler Saw is Friday, July 23. The production will run for only two weekends on Friday and Saturday evenings, July 23, 24, 30 and 31; curtain time is 8 p.m. There will also be a matinee on Sunday, Aug. 1 at 4 p.m. Performances will be held at the Caribbean Community Theatre at #18 Estate Orange Grove, Christiansted.
Charles Braslow, Bill Gibbons, Aaron McLees, Christine Thomas, Nick Tyler, and Lesa Walcott make up the cast of characters of this play. Marty Merrick directs, with Eileen Des Jardins as producer, and Glen Wells as stage manager.
What the Butler Saw is sponsored by Christiansted Apothecary Hall, Coastal Financial Company LLC, Essentials for the Office, Mongoose 104.9, Isle 95 and Sunny FM 99.5 and Reliable Rentals. The project is jointly supported by a grant from the V. I. Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C.
