July 28, 2004 – Sewage is flowing from a manhole in Walter I.M. Hodge Pavilion, and the Division of Environmental Protection is monitoring it.
According to a press release Wednesday from Commissioner Dean C. Plaskett, of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, "The sewage flow is emanating from a manhole located on the western shoulder of the street west of Building No. 1. The sewage flow, while pooling in some areas adjacent to the manhole, is continuing to flow into the nearby bush."
The department is advising the public, especially children and adults with compromised immune systems, to avoid the areas around the sewage overflow.
The press release stated, "Standing or running water in these areas may contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health. DPNR will continue to monitor the impacted area."
