July 31, 2004 – On Friday at 9 a.m., the Division of Environmental Protection confirmed that the flow of sewage out of manhole in the I.M. Hodge Pavilion had been stopped. The sewage flow has been an on-going problem for several days.
In a press release Friday, Commissioner Dean C. Plaskett, of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, said the Department of Public Works cleared the block sewage line and returned the conveyance system back to its regular flow.
DPNR, however, is still advising the public to "avoid the areas around the sewage overflow especially children and adults with compromised immune systems."
The release stated they should avoid the above-mentioned areas in Frederiksted until the pooled sewage has dried up.
DPNR will continue to monitor the area. For information regarding water quality call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082.
