August 1, 2004 – Hovensa has awarded scholarships to nine recent graduates from V. I. high schools. The recipients of the scholarships are:
Kimberly P.L. Ayala, a graduate of the St, Croix Educational Complex High School, who will attend Drexel University to secure a degree in mechanical engineering;
J'Ana D. Brady, a graduate of St. Joseph High School, who will attend Howard University to secure a degree in chemical engineering;
La Donna T. Joseph, a graduate of the St. Croix Educational Complex High School, who will attend North Carolina State University to secure a degree in chemical engineering;
Emily C. Luscz, a graduate of Antilles School, who will attend Dartmouth College to secure a degree in engineering;
Samuel Mootoo, a graduate of the St. Croix Educational Complex High School, who will attend Florida State University to secure a degree in chemical engineering;
Patrick E, Scotland, a graduate of St. Croix Central High School, Who will attend the university of Pittsburgh to secure a degree in computer engineering;
Michael Toussaint, a graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, who will attend the University of Pittsburgh to secure a degree in computer engineering;
Clinton A. Williams, a graduate of the St. Croix Educational Complex High School, who will attend the Florida Institute of Technology to secure a degree in architectural engineering: and
Ornelle O. Wilson, a graduate of St. Croix Central High School, who will attend Florida Memorial College to secure a degree in civil engineering.
Hovensa Vice President Alex Moorhead said that these awards are the continuation of a scholarship program to assist Virgin Islanders in achieving their dream of securing a degree in higher education at a college or university of .their own choosing.
"Hovensa looks forward to the day when the students who plan to secure a degree in chemical or mechanical engineering can become employees of the company," Moorhead stated. He said that Hovensa periodically has job openings for persons with such degrees.
