Little League 9-10 Tourney to Be Held on St. Thomas

Aug. 10, 2004 – St. Thomas will be the scene of the 9th annual Latin American/Caribbean Regional 9-10 Little League Baseball Tournament on Sept. 1-7.
Twelve teams from throughout the Caribbean and Latin America are expected to take part in the event, which will be hosted by the Alvin McBean East and Elrod Hendricks West Little League groups, according to a Tuesday release.
Scheduled to participate are Little League teams of 9- and 10-year-olds from Aruba, the Bahamas, Bonaire, the British Virgin Islands, Colombia, Curacao, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, St. Martin and St. Thomas.
Games will be played in the Alvin McBean Little League Ballpark and Emile Griffith Ballpark. They will be open to the public.
Lubin Roberts, Hendricks West president, is chairing the tournament committee, with Jaime Francis, McBean East vice president, as co-chair.
Local support in the form of sponsorships and volunteer services is being sought. So far, according to the release, Banco Popular, Coca-Cola, the Holiday Inn Windward Passage Hotel, Innovative Communication Corp., Knight Quality Stations and the V.I. government have made commitments.
"This is our chance to showcase our talent [and] professionalism, along with our unmatched hospitality to the rest of the Caribbean and Latin America," the release stated.
