Help Needed For Swim From Buck Island

Sept. 15, 2004 – Boaters and kayakers are needed to help with the St. Croix Coral Reef Swim on Oct. 24.
The five-mile swim from Buck Island to the Buccaneer is Oct. 24. To register or to volunteer to help call the Buccaneer at712-2100. All volunteers receive a race T-shirt.
The swim begins at Buck Island. Participants will swim from Buck Island, through two miles of ocean before reaching the coastline of St. Croix. The swim continues along the shore and finishes at the main beach of the Buccaneer. This will be the ninth time the event has been held.
Last year's winner was Alex Kostich of Los Angeles. He did it in one hour and 45 minutes.
Branden Whitehurst, of St. Croix, won the junior male solo event, finishing in two hours and 44 seconds.
Nicole Hutchins, of St. Croix, won the junior female solo event, finishing in two hours and two minutes. She was followed 25 seconds later by Keri Whitehurst also of St. Croix.
The 10-mile Bucc to Buck and Back race was also won by Kostich in a time of three hours and 42 minutes.
