Man Killed at Kennedy Housing Community

Oct. 28, 2004 – Israel Correa, a 28-year-old Christensted area resident, was found by V.I. Police and emergency personnel early Thursday at the John F. Kennedy Housing Community with fatal gunshot wounds, according to Police Commissioner Elton Lewis.
A report of discharging of shots in the housing community was received through the emergency 911 system at approximately 12:35 a.m. Thursday. Police were also informed "that a male was found lying on the ground in the vicinity of Building 12 of the housing community with some type of injuries about the body," Lewis said in a press release.
Police officers and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. EMS personnel determined Correa had died as a result of his wounds.
According to information provided and witness statements, Correa "was sitting outside in the vicinity of Building 12 with other residents, and, as they proceeded inside, gunshots were heard. Residents went back outside only to find Mr. Correa lying face up on the ground with what appeared to blood about his body and on the ground where he had fallen," Lewis said.
Police investigators are working to determine motive and perpetrator. Lewis and Territorial Chief Novelle Francis are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that might help.
