Public Invited to Lecture by Founder of Driehaus Capital Management
The public is invited to a free lecture featuring Richard Driehaus, CEO and founder of Driehaus Capital Management, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Nov. 4) in Chase Auditorium (Business Education room 110) on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The presentation is titled "Unconventional Wisdom for the Conventional Investor." Topics to be discussed include: investment strategies for investors (asset allocations, market timing, portfolio management), investment paradigms ("truths") worth avoiding and stock market outlooks. Driehaus will also offer personal tips.
Driehaus Capital Management is an EDC company located in the Tunick Building on Thomas. No reservations are required to attend the lecture. Refreshments will be served. Continuing Student Advisement and Spring Semester Registration Under Way
The 2005 Spring semester registration for returning students on the St. Croix campus continues through Nov. 12. For more information call the Academic Services office on St. Croix at 692-4158.
The 2005 Spring semester registration for returning students on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for Nov. 5 to 10 for undergraduate students and Nov. 12 and 15 for part-time and graduate students. For more information call the Admissions office at 693-1150.
The 2005 Spring semester begins on Jan. 13, 2005 and ends on May 8, 2005. Spring class schedules are available on the UVI web site's www.uvi.edu – Academics page. Following advisement, students are encouraged to register online. Online registration is available from links on the UVI home page.
Three to Vie for Miss UVI Ambassadorial Title on Saturday, Nov. 6
Three young ladies from the University of the Virgin Islands will compete for one of the school's most prestigious titles in the Miss UVI Ambassadorial Pageant scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts on the St. Thomas campus. SBDC Sets 'Choosing a Business' Seminar on St. Thomas on Nov. 9
The UVI Small Business Development Center will conduct a seminar entitled "Choosing a Business" from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Small Business Development Center Training Facility on St. Thomas. The seminar, the first in a series of seven, is designed for potential business owners, students and employees. Admission is $20 for each seminar. Those who pre-register will receive a 25 percent discount on each seminar. UVI and high school students (with I.D.) and UVI employees are admitted free, however, they must pre-register. Presentation to Celebrate Dominica's Independence, Culture
In celebration of Dominica's independence and culture, the UVI St. Lucia and Dominica Student Association will host a cultural presentation at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Dining Pavilion on the St. Thomas campus. The evening's featured speaker will be Dominican anthropologist, educator and historian Dr. Lennox Honychurch. A reception featuring traditional dancing, Creole music and foods from Dominica will follow. The public is invited. There is no charge. For information call 693-1111.
Isaac Hayes to Perform at Reichhold Center on Nov. 13
Grammy award winning R&B artist Isaac Hayes will perform at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts on Saturday, Nov. 13. Hayes is considered one of the most iconic figures in African-American music, with more than three decades of hits such as "I Stand Accused," "Walk On By," "Chocolate Chip," "It's Heaven to Me," and the theme song from the movie "Shaft."

UVI Paradise Jam Games Set for Nov. 19 – 27; Tickets On Sale
Tickets are on sale now for the fifth annual UVI Paradise Jam NCAA Division I basketball tournament. Games in the men's division will run from Nov. 19 to 21, with championship round action on Nov. 22. Women's division games are scheduled for Nov. 25 through 27. The tournament will feature 14 teams and, for the first time, national live television coverage of the championship games.
Tickets cost $10 for VI residents (with an ID), $40 for non-VI residents, and $5 for students ages 5 – 17. UVI students can purchase $5 tickets at the UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus. A student ID will be required to qualify for the $5 price. Tickets are also on sale at Modern Music (Havensight) Parrot Fish (Back Street) The Rack (Tutu Park) and Nisky Pharmacy. Volleyball — In the semi-finals of the STX Intramural Co-Ed Volleyball league the Hotshots defeated a very stubborn Above The Rest in two straight sets 25-23, and 27-25. The Hotshots were lead by David Obando and Amina Henderson. Above The Rest top performers were Eric Brooks and Marelle Sylvester. The finals are scheduled for 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, with the Hotshots taking on top seed Hit It Up. For more information contact Coach Bruce Wray at 692-4139.
Table Tennis — The STX Intramural Table Tennis Tournament will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4. The round-robin pool play singles event is open to all male and female UVI students, faculty and staff. Players will try to qualify out of the pool play into a single-elimination tournament to be played Thursday, Nov. 11. Register at the student center desk or contact Coach Wray at 692-4139.
Tennis — The STX Intramural Tennis Tournament will be played from Friday, Nov. 12, through Sunday, Nov. 14. A double-elimination format will be used in this singles tournament.
