Tennis Tournament Earns Funds for Good Hope

Nov 11, 2004 – The Buccaneer Tennis Club was busy last weekend with members of the Good Hope School community playing tennis to benefit the faculty development fund. Starting on Thursday evening, members of the board of trustees, parents, faculty, and other supporters of the school gathered at the Mermaid Restaurant at a cocktail party sponsored by The Buccaneer, and bid on the various teams playing mixed doubles. Francis D’’Eramo and Rob Armstrong acted as the auctioneers and the bidding raised $18,600 for The Good Hope School Faculty Endowment Fund.
Sandy Robb and Derek Polydore were the winners against Sasha Brady and Dante Galiber in the main draw, 6-4, 7-6. Paddy Kenses and Les Kelley won against Dynel Soto and David Upson, 6-4, 6-3 in the consolation draw.
Don DeWilde, the tennis pro at The Buccaneer; Sara Petievich, a Good Hope parent; Patty Hensley, alumni parent; and Karen Heckman, a Good Hope board member, contributed their time and expertise for this event. Winners were awarded student art work that had been chosen by artist-in-residence and art teacher, Phyllis Biddle, and framed by Campen Gallery.
The first place female winner was given the St. Croix tennis bracelet designed by Whealan Massicott of ib designs. The event was sponsored by Nichols, Newman, Logan and D’’Eramo, P.C.; Kicks; H&H Tire and Battery; The Buccaneer; and Philip and Gail Savopoulos.
