Parking Restrictions on St. Thomas Campus for Nov. 20-22 Announced
Evening parking on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands will be restricted from Saturday, Nov. 20 through Monday, Nov. 22. Parking spaces in the Classroom Administration (CA) building parking lot will be reserved for Little Theatre patrons. Persons attending the UVI Paradise Jam basketball tournament will be asked to park in the Sports and Fitness Center parking lot, the Humanities Division parking lot or the lot behind the CA building.
UVI Paradise Jam Games Set for Nov. 19 – 27; Tickets On Sale
UVI's fifth annual Paradise Jam NCAA Division I basketball tournament tips off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19. The opening game pits Austin Peay against St. Louis. Men's round action continues through Monday, Nov. 22, when the championship round is scheduled. Women's division games begin Thursday, Nov. 25 and continue through Saturday, Nov. 27.
Tickets are on sale now, with all UVI students eligible for $5 tickets if they are purchased at the St. Thomas campus Bookstore. Regular admission is $10 for VI residents (with ID); $40 for non-VI residents; and $5 for persons age 5 to 17. Tickets are also available at Modern Music (Havensight) Parrot Fish (Back Street) The Rack (Tutu Park) and Nisky Pharmacy. 22nd St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair Set Nov. 20-21
Agriculture will be displayed at its best at the 22nd Annual St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair scheduled for Nov. 20 and 21, on the grounds of the University of the Virgin Islands Reichhold Center for the Arts. Crop farmers, food vendors and various government departments will come together for the fair themed "Agriculture Galore in 2004." The fair will open at 10 a.m. and will close at 5 p.m. on both days. UVI's Little Theatre Fall Presentation of 'The Mousetrap' Set Nov. 20-23
The UVI Little Theatre has announced that the schedule for its fall presentation of Agatha Christie's long running mystery "The Mousetrap" has been adjusted, with opening night now set for Saturday, Nov. 20. The change was necessary to ensure adequate parking for the play and other activities scheduled the same weekend on UVI's St. Thomas campus.
"The Mousetrap" will now run through Nov. 23, with a curtain time of 8 p.m. each evening. Tickets purchased for the Nov. 19 opening may be exchanged at any ticket outlet for any other performance. Ticket outlets include Dockside Bookshop, Nisky Pharmacy and the UVI Humanities Building and Book Store on the St. Thomas campus. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $6 for students. St. Croix Accountants Association Sets Tax Planning Seminar for Nov. 21
The UVI St. Croix student chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. will conduct a seminar entitled, "Tax Planning Tips for Preparing your 2004 Returns" at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, in Evans Center room 716. The presenter will be UVI Accounting Prof. Francisco Depusoir, a Certified Public Accountant.
Depusoir will discuss provisions of the new Working Families Tax Act of 2004 which was signed into law by President Bush in October. The association is also planning a bake sale on Wednesday, Nov. 24 on the St. Croix campus at the business office.
UVI St. Croix Class of 2005 to Meet Sunday, Nov. 21
A meeting of UVI's graduating class of 2005 on the St. Croix campus is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, in Evans Center room 401. All class members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 692-4023.
UVI St. Thomas Class of 2005 to Meet Friday, Dec. 3
A meeting of UVI's graduating class of 2005 on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, in Business Education room 206. All class members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 693-1040.
SBDC Sets Business Seminars for Nov. 22 and 23 on St. Thomas
The UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will conduct two seminars focusing on starting a business on Monday, Nov. 22 and Tuesday, Nov. 23. The Monday seminar is titled "Writing a Business Plan I – Narrative." The Tuesday seminar's title is "Writing a Business Plan II – Financials." Both sessions will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Small Business Development Center Training Facility on St. Thomas. The seminars are designed for business owners, students and employees. Admission is $20 for each. Those who pre-register will receive a 25 percent discount. UVI and high school students (with I.D.) and UVI employees are admitted free. They must, however, pre-register. Wastewater Treatment Workshop Set Dec. 6-7; Signup Deadline Nov. 30
UVI's Cooperative Extension Service will conduct a two-day Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Training workshop on Dec. 6 and 7 at the Small Business Development Center's Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. The workshop, which is free, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. It is open to local government personnel, University staff, community organizations, non-governmental organizations, cooperatives and other interested persons. Day one will target regulators, educators and those charged with disseminating wastewater treatment information to others. The second day is geared towards architects, builders and the general public.
The workshop is sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service, EPA Region II, Cornell University, Rutgers University and the University of Puerto Rico. Although the workshop is free, participants must confirm attendance no later than Nov. 30. For more information call 693-1086.
