Nov. 24, 2004 – A bomb threat called in to the Abramson Bus Service has halted bus service for all school buses on St. Croix. But Sgt. Thomas Hannah, Police spokesman, made it clear Wednesday morning, "School is still in session."
The caller said an "explosive device" had been placed on one of the buses, according to Hannah.
Traffic around the Queen Mary Highway at the intersection of Hannah's Rest will also be diverted while Police search the buses.
He said parents will have to make other arrangements to get their children to school.
Hannah said the call was likely a hoax, but Police still had to treat it as though there were a serious threat. Hannah also made it clear that the penalties for calling in bomb threats had changed. "This is serious."
Hannah speculated that an altercation between students on a bus recently may have spurred the call. He said when a fight broke out on one of the buses near a Police station, the students involved were held at the station.
Hannah said Abramson Bus Service provides transportation for all public and private schools on St. Croix.
