Nov. 25, 2004 – Win over a woman's feet, and you've found your way into her soul. Ok, that may be an exaggeration, but with a pair of stiletto heels made from beautiful leather, crafted with accents and details in all the right places, you're well on your way. Just throw in a beautiful hat and a designer bag and viola!
Essentric Shoe Boutique is its own little paradise for the shoe-aholic who lives and works in paradise. It's also an oasis for visitors to the island.
"When we opened it was more for locals, but tourists started coming in," says owner Denise Benjamin. "They say they don't see these looks under one roof even in the States. They always compliment me on the styles they see. I have a lot of returning customers."
If flip flops are your thing, you can buy a pair for $19, or you can splurge and find a pair made of special fabrics, rhinestone encrusted, with a little heel or without.
Mules? Just say the word, and you can try on dozens of pairs made from fine leathers, hand-crafted and -stitched, toes pointed and ready to wear.
"We have a wide array of styles for every different kind of look. Casual, day wear, formal wear," says Benjamin. "We have choices."
Choices that include designer brands like Anne Klein, Via Spiga, Chinese Laundry, Cinderella, Ezno Angellini and Nine West, with prices ranging from $19 to $200.
And, any well-heeled woman knows there's nothing like the right accessories to complete the ensemble. Essentric Shoe Boutique can take care of that as well, with walls full of European couture hats, designer bags, leather goods, travel accessories and carry-on bags.
Benjamin's sister opened an Essentric Shoe Boutique on St. Croix nine years ago. The popularity with customers there prompted Denise to open a second location on St. Thomas four years ago. Things have been so good there are some plans for expansion in the next year or so. But Benjamin is remaining tight-lipped on that subject.
On St. Thomas, Essentric Shoe Boutique is located behind the Green House. On St. Croix, it's located at 2B Mount Pleasant.
