Dear Source:
The Legislature should act, with all haste, to override the Governor's ill-considered veto of the proposed animal protection provisions recently reviewed. As a career assistant county prosecutor, and former supervisor of both Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence units in a large agency, I can say without reservation that child molesters, wife-beaters and rapists often have a history of animal abuse as juveniles. As a society, we have an obligation to ourselves to attempt to identify, treat, and, where necessary, incarcerate these offenders as early as possible. We have a moral duty to protect not only those among us who would become victims, but also our companion animals, upon which they would prey.
As a property owner and future resident of St. John, I respectfully demand the Legislature fulfill its primary and foremost function, protection of the
public: enact this Legislation now.
