Sunset Jazz Presents Holiday Concert

Dec. 8, 2004 -What do you get when you mix six of the finest jazz musicians with seven of the most incredible jazz vocalists to be had? The Frederiksted Economic Development Association's Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted's 3rd Anniversary Holiday Concert!
Now, if you are a connoisseur of quality jazz music, a lover of ambiance, sunsets, wonderful people or great times you will not want to be anywhere but the Fort Frederik Beach Park on Friday December 17th at 6:00 p.m. You truly do not want your friends and neighbors to be telling you the next day what a phenomenal event you missed!
Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted is proud and honored to feature an amalgam of some of the premier jazz talent on the face of this beautiful earth! Wondering who all these talented folks are? Let's begin with the band.
Leader, arranger, and conductor of this event is the extremely talented bassist Marsvyn David.
Joining Marsvyn will be pianist Benjamin Jacobs-El, guitarist Elvis Pedro, drummer Ken "Afra" Daley, trumpeter Eddie Russell and Diane Russell on flute. This ensemble alone is enough to make a jazz aficionado weep with delight. But, Sunset Jazz doesn't stop there. Along with what could be described as the best of the best in the world of jazz musicians, Sunset Jazz invited the best of the best when it comes to drop-dead wonderful vocalists. You should be sitting down when you read this lineup!
Sunset Jazz is featuring St. Croix's own Malcolm Evans; fresh from Broadway Todd Howell; Chicago jazz circuit's Debbie Harrell; the infamous friend of Gershwin and Kermit the Frog, Claudette "Adjoa" Hinds; our very own vocal sensation, "Venus"; FEDA's Board Member and crooner extraordinaire, Eugene "Doc" Petersen, and last, but certainly not least, the incredible vocalist "Blakness."
Each vocalist will be performing jazz arrangements of beloved holiday standards.
Joining FEDA in presenting this holiday jazz extravaganza is WTJX – Channel 12, our local PBS station. The official radio station of Sunset Jazz, Sunny 99.5 WVIQ, will be broadcasting a live remote. Guest co-emcees for the event are Glenn Dratte and Derek Browne of Isle 95, WJKC's Big Phat Morning Show. Be prepared to enjoy one of the best events of the holiday season!
FEDA will also host vendors selling traditional holiday sweet treats, guavaberry, coquito and more, so come ready to stock up on your holiday favorites!
FEDA is asking of each concert goer, in the spirit of the season, to bring a wrapped gift applicable for either a child or a senior citizen. Please indicate on a tag on the package the appropriate age and gender. These gifts will then be distributed to the Women's Coalition, Queen Louise Home and Whim Gardens for the Elderly.
Remember, as always, to bring a chair or a blanket, as seating is at a minimum in the park. Sunset Jazz concerts, which start at 6:00 p.m. , are free and open to the public, with families encouraged to attend. They're presented by the non-profit community organization, the Frederiksted Economic Development Association (FEDA.) Bridget Cox-Dawson, Sunset Jazz organizer, reminds concert goers that FEDA operates a cash bar to help defray the expenses associated with producing this free concert to the community, so please be cool: no coolers! The group Hispanos Unidos sells food to assist in their community projects.
