CFVI Awards Silverbells and Cockleshells Awards

Dec. 10, 2004 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands awarded various groups and individuals its Silverbells and Cockleshells Awards at a forum Dec. 10. Below is a listing of all the individuals and groups awarded:
Gold Awards (4 awards of $1,000 each):
– Miracle Babies Support Foundation, a support group for parents with premature babies.
– Officer Roy Chesterfield, founder of "The Law and You" program at Charlotte Amalie High School.
– Samuel Oliver, English teacher at St. Croix's Central High School.
– Chinwe Osaze, art teacher at Peace Corps Elementary School.
Silver Awards (3 Awards of $500 each):
– Lockhart Elementary School Quadrille Dancers, who performed for the audience.
– Roy Faulkner, school bus driver who teaches martial arts for free to children from Michael Kirwan Elementary School.
– Larry Finch, who provides free tennis lessons to interested children.
Bronze Awards (4 awards of $250 each):
– Cardell Taylor, assists young basketball players in attaining athletic scholarships.
– Mario Francis, founder of Junior Gardening Club.
– Martha Bressi, tutors children at the Women's Coalition and inmates at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
– St. Thomas-St. John Pathfinders' Club Annual Kayak-a-thon.
Special Commendations:
– Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Students Excel), tutorial program.
– St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, assists families in nearby housing projects.
– Lillian Caesar-Sutherland, founder of the V.I. chapter of Minority Organ/Tissue Transplant Education Program.
– Methodist Education and Outreach Services, provides tutorials and other programs.
– Lorraine Mason, founder of the mentoring program Ms. Lorraine's Kidz.
