Dec. 17, 2004 – The 2004-2005 Arts Alive Concerts in the Garden series continues at 8 p.m. on January 5 at Tillett Gardens Italian-born and raised classical pianist Julian Gargiulo, who also will perform at 8 p.m. January 6, 2004, at St. John School of the Arts.
Julian Gargiulo is a dynamic classical pianist who plays with extraordinary passion and precision and fills concert halls with his personal blend of charm, humor and charisma.
Julian's performances are different than most classical concerts. "My concerts involve talking," he says, including telling stories about the composers and the music. He also enjoys meeting the audience after each concert. For Julian, it's all about entertaining the Crowd.
Julian studied music at the Verona State Conservatory and the Academy in Rome. He also spent a year at the Moscow State Conservatory. He earned a bachelor's degree in music at Rowan University in New Jersey, a master's degree at the Peabody Conservatory and a doctorate at the University of Maryland. He has performed throughout Europe, in Russia and the United States.
"All the elements of an international career are present: talent, musicality, technique, and charisma," said Garmisch-Partenkirchner Tabglatt in Germany. L'Arena di Verona in Italy proclaimed Gargiulo "a romantic pianist with a particular sensibility for Schumann and Beethoven rich in textural subtleties and exquisite Gershwin."
In his Virgin Islands concerts, Julian will thrill audiences with his remarkable interpretations of Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Brahms, Scriabin and Debussy.
Concerts in the Garden continue on Jan. 26 with Corky Siegel and his jazz ensemble. Returning to Tillett Gardens on Feb. 9 will be classical violinist Bella Hristova.
A prex-fixe dinner will be served before each Tillett Gardens' concert. Before the concert and during intermission, the resident artists at Tillett Gardens will have their studios open. That will include: The Tillett Gallery, Ridvan Studio, Alison's Wonderland, Caribbean Herbals, Hand Paint'd Co. and Kazooti Clay Studio, home of the original Virgin Islands moisture resistant salt shaker.
Tickets for individual Concerts in the Garden are $30 in advance and $35 at the door; dinner is an additional $30. Season tickets for three concerts only are $81; with dinner $171. For tickets or reservations, call 775-1929 or visit the Tillett Gardens executive office.
