Carambola Golf Will Be Free for a Day

Jan. 7, 2005 – Residents of St. Croix, as well as visitors, will be able to check out all the Carambola Golf Course and Country Club has to offer on Jan. 15.
And they can do it free of charge. Even the golf carts will be free to golfers. All that one needs to do is call the clubhouse to get a tee time while they are still available.
Leah Lewis, who took over as general manager at the course at the end of last year, said Friday that there were still plenty of spots open and that the clubhouse will take tee times right up to the day of the event, if there are tee times open.
For those people who are not golfers, but think they might be interested, Carambola is offering clinics at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The basics of the game will be explained and participants will get some practice on the driving range as well as the putting green. Clubs will be provided. Clubs will not be available for those people going out on the course. If you have not played golf before, the clinic is the place for you.
A clinic is also being offered for tennis players at 10 a.m. Lewis said instructors will see who shows up for the clinic and then make their instructions fit their needs. Carambola's five courts are clay courts. Clay courts make for a more strategic game of tennis while also avoiding the hammering that constant play on hard surface courts give the knees.
There will also be several games available for croquet enthusiasts.
Lewis said, "Everything is free, but the food."
The event is a grand opening event marking new management and ownership of the club. (See "Residents, Golfers Part Owners of Carambola Golf Course").
The new management plans several renovations at the course and also new club membership benefits. Club membership used to cover just golf, but now it will include the use of the swimming pool and the tennis courts and several yearly social events.
