LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR EXTENDS CONDOLENCES
ON THE PASSING OF POLICE OFFICER JOSEPH BESS

Jan. 7, 2005 — Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards extends his sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Corporal Joseph Bess of the Virgin Islands Police Department.
"I offer my heartfelt sympathy to the loved ones and the entire Law Enforcement family of Corporal Bess during this very difficult time," Lieutenant Governor Richards said. "On behalf of the entire community, I would like to convey our thanks for the professional and dedicated service he provided to the Traffic Bureau, the Police Department, the people of St. Croix and the Territory as a whole."
Corporal Bess demonstrated that he went beyond the call of duty to become a role model for incoming traffic investigation officers and many others in the Department. "He was a strong force for collective bargaining on behalf of his colleagues, and his commitment outside of the normal working hours was greatly appreciated," the Lieutenant Governor added.
Corporal Bess will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
