V.I.'s Bohlke Wins 10k Road Race in Texas

Jan. 28, 2005 – The V.I. Track and Field Federation announced this week that V.I. National Track and Field Team athlete Billy Bohlke won the 21st annual 10K Causeway Run South Padre Island, Texas, last weekend with a time of 33 minutes 18 seconds.
Bohlke is currently in pilot training in Corpus Christi with the U.S. Air Force and has not run a race in eight months.
The race was somewhat of a homecoming for Bohlke, who attended the Marine Military Academy nearby and graduated in 1997.
"It was eerie coming back to the [Rio Grande] Valley and the school," Bohlke said. "It has grown so much since I was there. I was a company commander for Delta Company and it brought back so many memories."
"But, I definitely think that MMA was the core for my running abilities. In fact, I think I still own a couple records for the 800 and the mile there with the track team," Bohlke said.
He said he was honored and pleased to win such a race. "It feels really good," he said. "But, I will say this: The guy in second gave me quite a run. It is kind of funny though, I told everyone that I was coming down here and I was going to win this race."
In the men's division, Bohlke came in first with the 33:18 time. Oscar De Real finished second in 34:17, and Josue Cervantes was third in 34:40.
