Podiatrist to Speak on Diabetes Related Foot Problems

Jan. 31, 2005- Are people with diabetes more likely to have amputations? What are the common causes and treatments for heel pain?
These are some of the questions that will be answered at a free public health seminar presented at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Conference Room A of the Roy L. Schneider Hospital.
RLSH Medical Staff is pleased to present this free seminar for the Virgin Islands community as part of its growing relationship with the renowned Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., a release from the hospital said. "U.S. News & World Report" in 2004 named the Hospital Center as one of the best hospitals nationwide for heart surgery and hormonal disorders>
Dr. Stephen Kominsky, director or Podiatric Medical Education at Washington Hospital Center, will be giving the free seminar on "the diabetic foot and how to achieve good foot care."Kominsky is an expert in foot and ankle surgery with special emphasis on complications from diabetes. Persons with diabetes, foot problems, health professionals, and others interested in good foot care are invited to attend this one-time session.
"Diabetes is one of the most serious health challenges facing African Americans today, and many experience foot problems that can be avoided with proper knowledge," Dr. Thelma Watson, RLSH Medical Director, said . "We encourage the public to attend this invaluable seminar Wednesday evening."
