Army Pvt. Keith G. Nichols / St. Thomas
Feb. 28, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. Keith G. Nichols has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
The son of Nancy Nichols of Bonne Resolution, St. Thomas, the private is a 2003 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Army National Guard Pvt. Archie Corbitt III / St. Croix
Feb. 25, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pvt. Archie Corbitt III has graduated from the light-wheeled vehicle mechanic advanced individual training course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
Corbitt's parents are Pauline B. and Archie Corbitt of Catherines Rest,
St. Croix. The private is a 2003 graduate of the St. Croix Educational Complex.
The course he took is designed to train soldiers to perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair wheeled vehicles and related mechanical components, including suspension systems, internal combustion engines and power trains, spark- and compression-ignition engines, wheel-hub assemblies, hydraulic brake and steering systems; and operate a wheeled vehicle crane, hoist, and winch assemblies.
Airman Randall Boston / St. Croix
Feb. 24, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown news) – Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Randall G. Boston has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The son of Nina Boston of Sion Farm, St. Croix, Boston is a 2004 graduate of St. Croix Educational Complex.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Army Pvt. Tekia L. Joseph / St. Croix
Feb. 22, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. Tekia L. Joseph has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
Joseph is the daughter of Jacqueline Williams of Blake Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y. Her sister, Taisha Joseph, resides at Water Gut Homes, Christiansted, St. Croix. In 2002, she graduated Educational Complex High School.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Army National Guard Pvt. Akeem Inniss / St. Croix
Feb. 22, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pvt. Akeem O. Inniss has graduated from the small arms/ artillery repairer advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.
Innis, the son of Bertram Inniss of Kingshill, St. Croix, is a 2004 graduate of St. Croix Central High School.
The course is designed to train soldiers to perform direct and general support maintenance and repairs on small arms and other related infantry weapons, such as shoulder-fired weapons, handguns, machine guns, mortars, and towed artillery.
Airman Monique F. George / St. Thomas
Feb. 17, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Air Force Senior Airman Monique F. George has deployed overseas to a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
She is the daughter of Theodora A. Creque-Smith of Bournefield, and
niece of Albert Creque and Leonard Creque, all of St. Thomas. She is a 2001 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School.
Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.
Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq's economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq's sovereignty and independence as a democracy.
George is a senior emergency action controller assigned to the 325th
Fighter Wing, Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Fla.
Navy Officer Jamal Baxter / St. Thomas
Feb. 17, 2005 (Fleet Hometown News) – Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jamal A. Baxter Jr,, son of Vivian C. Raymond of St. Thomas, recently participated in New Horizons, a humanitarian assistance exercise in Haiti, while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Saipan, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
Baxter is a 1997 graduate of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School.
Baxter and his shipmates offloaded 1,200 tons of construction equipment and supplies for U.S. Navy Seabees and U.S. Army Reserve Military Police, in support of the 90-day exercise. New Horizons will support the rebuilding of schools and wells, and also provide medical support to the victims of Hurricane Jeanne. Elements of the Saipan Expeditionary Strike Group will also conduct maritime interdiction operations training and multinational exercises with Marines from Honduras and Columbia.

Civilian Lesmore Smith Jr. / St. Thomas
Feb. 17, 2005 (Fleet Hometown News) – Civilian Lesmore Smith Jr., son of Sonia Colbourne of St. Thomas and Lesmore Smith Sr. of St. Thomas, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District Miami, Sunrise, Fla. Smith is a 2003 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School.
Smith will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
Seaman Apprentice Timothy George / St. Croix
Feb. 17, 2005 (Fleet News) – Navy Seaman Apprentice Timothy George, son of Joan B. Clarke of Kingshill, St. Croix, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week progr
am, George completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly "Navy" flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor.
Navy Officer Radford Chinnery / St. Thomas
Feb. 15, 2005 (Fleet Hometown News) – Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Radford F. Chinnery, a 1988 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, is currently in the middle of a routine scheduled deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
Chinnery and more than 7,600 of his fellow shipmates of the Truman Carrier Strike Group deployed in support of the global war on terrorism. Carriers like the Harry S. Truman are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.
Navy Officer Kathleen Charles / St. Thomas
Feb. 15, 2005 (Fleet News) – Navy Lt. j.g. Kathleen A. Charles, daughter of Vera and Winston Charles of St. Thomas, is currently in the middle of a routine scheduled deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
Charles, a 1988 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, joined the Navy in May 1989. She is a graduate of Tulane University, New Orleans, La., with a bachelor's degree.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Earl D. Lake / St. Thomas
Feb.14, 2005 (Fleet Home Town News Center) – Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Earl D. Lake, son of Merle R. and William W. Lake of St. Thomas, recently received a Letter of Appreciation from the Secretary of the Navy, for assisting in tsunami relief efforts during Operation Unified Assistance in Southeast Asia, while assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Milius, homeported in San Diego.
"Your fellow Americans are proud of you and what you accomplished," said Secretary Gordon R. England. "You showed the world American compassion and mercy. At sea, ashore and in the air, you brought honor to yourselves and to our nation. "
Lake, along with thousands of other U.S. Sailors and Marines, supported more than 6, 000 flight hours, helping to deliver more than 20 million pounds of medicine, food and water. The supplies helped save thousands of lives and eased the suffering of thousands more.
Ships like the Milius provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities. The ship and crew perform anti-submarine, air and surface warfare by using the Vertical Launching System, advanced Tomahawk and anti-aircraft missiles and a multi-function phased array radar.
Lake, a 1988 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, joined the Navy in April 1989.
Army Pfc. Karel Mack / St. Croix
Feb. 11, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pfc. Karel K. Mack has graduated from the Unit Supply Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at the Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.
She is the daughter of Steven M. and Sheila E. Mack of LaGrande Princess, Christiansted.
The course is designed to train students to receive, inspect, segregate, store, inventory, issue, deliver and turn-in organizational and installation supplies and equipment; maintain automated supply systems for accountability with use of unit computers; issue and receipt of small arms, and secure and control weapons and ammunition supplies.
Navy Seaman LaToya Jules / St. Thomas
Feb. 11, 2005 (Fleet Hometown News) – Navy Seaman LaToya F. Jules, daughter of Joseph B. Jules of Charlotte Amalie, recently graduated from Operations Specialist School.
Jules, a 2000 graduate of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, joined the Navy in June 2004.
During the course at Training Support Center Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach, Va., Jules learned to operate surveillance and search radars, recognize and identify electronic signals, control aircraft approach devices and operate electronic navigation systems. The curriculum is designed to prepare operations specialists for duty in a shipboard combat information center or at a shore-based fleet training center.
Airman Sergio Romano / St. Croix
Feb. 11, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Air Force Senior Airman Sergio L. Romano has graduated from Airman Leadership School at Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Va.
The son of Thomas L. and Ana M. Romano of Sunny Isle, Christiansted, he graduated in 2000 from St. Croix Central High School.
The five-week course is designed to train senior airmen to understand their positions in the Air Force organizational structure, leadership, communications skills, and profession of arms, which are needed for professional development to be effective noncommissioned officers. Airmen are prepared and better equipped to serve as supervisors, managers and rating officials as they progress in their enlisted military careers. The school is the first of three levels of professional military education programs used to develop and cultivate leadership and supervisory skills, and is a required course for airmen to complete prior to being promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.
Romano is a jet engine technician assigned to the 1st Aircraft
Maintenance Squadron, 27th Aircraft Maintenance Unit.

Feb. 11, 2005 (Army & Air Force News) – Army National Guard Pvt. Muhisani M. Stuart has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
She is the daughter of Isabelle Stuart Casimir, and Paul Alexander, > both of St. Thomas.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Navy Airman Ray D. Ralph / St. Thomas
Feb. 11, 2005 (Fleet News) – Navy Airman Ray D. Ralph, son of Charles W. Army National Guard Pvt. Diane Fox / St. Croix
Feb. 10, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pvt. Diane M. Fox, the daughter of Anita Ramos of St. Croix, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
In 2004, the soldier graduated from St. Croix Central High School.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Army Pvt. Henry Cuffy / St. Thomas
Feb. 10, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. Henry Cuffy, the son of Julienne Cuffy of Contant, St. Thomas, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. He earned distinction as an honor graduate.
During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.
Airman Shuna Ross / St. Thomas
Feb. 8, 2005 (Army &Air Force Hometown News) -Air Force Airman Shuna K. Ross, the daughter of Stephanie Ross of St. thomas, is one of hundreds of U.S. Air Force members who participated in the 55th Presidential Inauguration of George W. Bush on January 20, 2005, at the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. The participants are assigned to the Air Force District of Washington and the 11th Wing at Bolling Air Force Base, D.C.
The airmen provided logistical and human resource support and performed a variety of assigned and special duties to help secure Washington streets, memorials and government installations during the inauguration and parade. They escorted dignitaries and media members, and stood watch as cordon members along Pennsylvania Avenue or at the Capitol.
Army National Guard Pvt. Neftali Melendez / St. Croix
Feb. 8, 2005 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pvt. Neftali Melendez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
Melendez, a 2004 graduate of St. Croix Central High School, is the son of Yolanda Melendez of Christiansted.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
