Summer Food Service Program Available

0

Feb. 11, 2005 — The Summer Food Service Program will be available during summer 2005. The federally funded program provides free meals for all children up to 18 years old, and disabled persons age 19 and older, and those participants of public or private, non-profit school programs established for the mentally ill or physically disabled, as determined by a state or local educational agency.
Operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered on the State level, the program reimburses sponsors for meals served at approved feeding sites in low-income areas.
All public or private non-profit school food authorities, public or private non-residential summer camps, units of local or state government, public or private non-profit colleges or universities currently participating in the National Youth Sport Program are eligible to participate. Private non-profit organizations, which develop special summer or other school vacation programs providing services similar to that made available to children during the school year, and the National School Lunch and school Breakfast Programs are also eligible to participate.
To determine eligibility or for more information, contact the State Office of the Virgin Islands Special Nutrition Programs at 774-9373.
