March 6, 2005 – Residents are invited to come explore and learn about the geology of the largest island in Benner Bay: Cas Cay. At Cas Cay, coastal hedge, mangroves and wetlands abound with native plants and some endangered species. The marine environment includes seagrass beds and near-shore coral reefs swimming with fish and other creatures, according to a release from the Environmental Association of St. Thomas/St. John.
Join scientist Roy Watlington on March 13 as the geology, biology and spirit of one of the Virgin Islands' last great places is explored. Hikers are advised to wear shoes (preferably with closed toes), and to bring water in a hands-free container. The cost of the hike is $5 for EAST members and $10 for non-members. Space is limited so please leave a message at 774-1837 for reservations and details of time and place.
