Teachers Invited to V.I. Writing Project's Summer Institute

0

March 7, 2005 – Teachers committed to the teaching of writing are invited to apply to the V.I. Writing Project's third Summer Institute, which will be held on St. Croix this year.
Up to 20 teachers from throughout the territory, who teach grades between kindergarten and college fourth year, will be accepted. The invitational Summer Institute will run from June 20 through July 15.
Based on a model of "teachers teaching teachers," the Summer Institute provides a setting for participants to share successful classroom practices. Teachers will also develop their own writing skills and study current research in the teaching of writing. Educators at all grade levels and in all subject areas are encouraged to apply.
The Institute will take place on the St. Croix campus of the university of the Virgin Islands. Day-long sessions will run Mondays through Thursdays. A stipend of $800 will be awarded to all participants, and teachers from St. Thomas and St. John will also receive free transportation and accommodations.
Applications for the Summer Institute must be postmarked by April 11, 2005. For more information or to obtain an application, please contact Dr. Valerie Combie at UVI by telephone to 692-4126, or e-mail.
The V.I. Writing Project is funded by UVI, the V.I. Education Department, and the National Writing Project. It is one of the National Writing Project's network of 185 locations at universities throughout the United States and its territories.
