Boschulte Middle School Celebrates Nutrition

March 7, 2005 — It's important to make good food choices and develop sound eating and physical activity habits. That's why Carver Farrow, Principal of Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, announces that the students, faculty and staff will be conducting a series of nutrition month activities. The activities are being sponsored by the school’s Family and Consumer Science Department, the School Nurse and the School Lunch Program.
The Family and Consumer Science students will be preparing nutritious snacks for students to sample throughout the month, and provide recipies so that students can make these snacks at home.
A "National Breakfast Week Celebration" will be held from 6:45 to 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9 for parents, faculty and staff.
On "Check Your Health Day," health professionals will provide free cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings for all students and faculty from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 16.
A Patè Festival will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18. Family and Consumer Science students will prepare and sell a variety baked patès, including crab, saltfish, salmon, tofu, turkey, beef and chicken. Fruit smoothies and local fruit drinks will also be available for purchase.
The culmination will be a Nutrition Assembly from 1 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22. A lecture will be presented by Mr. Edward C. Jones, Nutritionist with the Department of Health. The student body will learn about the importance of healthy eating and the prevention and management of health concerns such as teenage obesity, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.
